چکیده

This article explores the notion that Freudian constructs may have neurobiological substrates. Specifically, we propose that Freud's descriptions of the primary and secondary processes are consistent with self-organized activity in hierarchical cortical systems and that his descriptions of the ego are consistent with the functions of the default-mode and its reciprocal exchanges with subordinate brain systems. This neurobiological account rests on a view of the brain as a hierarchical inference or Helmholtz machine. In this view, large-scale intrinsic networks occupy supraordinate levels of hierarchical brain systems that try to optimize their representation of the sensorium. This optimization has been formulated as minimizing a free-energy; a process that is formally similar to the treatment of energy in Freudian formulations. We substantiate this synthesis by showing that Freud's descriptions of the primary process are consistent with the phenomenology and neurophysiology of rapid eye movement sleep, the early and acute psychotic state, the aura of temporal lobe epilepsy and hallucinogenic drug states.

Mourning and melancholia revisited: correspondences between principles of Freudian metapsychology and empirical findings in neuropsychiatry

Freud began his career as a neurologist studying the anatomy and physiology of the nervous system, but it was his later work in psychology that would secure his place in history. This paper draws attention to consistencies between physiological processes identified by modern clinical research and psychological processes described by Freud, with a special emphasis on his famous paper on depressi...

Integration of the Existed Knowledge on DMN: A Critical Review Study

The default-mode network (DMN) is one of the human brain’s networks activated in resting and self-referential thinking states. The nature of this network and its normal or abnormal changes has been the subject of various studies. The aim of this study was to systematical review and integrating the findings of that studies focused on the relationship of DMN with mental disorders and aging-induce...

Evaluation of wall thickness and porosity effects on the conjugate free convection heat transfer rate of hybrid nanofluid inside a square cavity

At present study, effects of wall thickness and porosity on the conjugate free convection heat transfer inside a square cavity have been examined. Continuity, momentum and energy equations for fluid and solid matrix phases are governing equations in present work. Mentioned equations and related boundary conditions have been transformed into their non-dimensional forms. They are solved using fin...

A Novel Approach to Designing of Chattering-Free Sliding-Mode Control in Second-Order Discrete-Time Systems

In this paper, a chattering-free sliding-mode control is mainly proposed in a second-order discrete-time system. For achieving this purpose, firstly, a suitable control law would be derived by using the discrete-time Lyapunov stability theory and the sliding-mode concept. Then the input constraint is taken into account as a saturation function in the proposed control law. In order to guarantee ...

Free Vibration Analysis of Non-Uniform Circular Nanoplate

In this paper, axisymmetric free vibration analysis of a circular Nano-plate having variable thickness was studied. The variation in thickness of plate was considered as a linearly in radial direction. Nonlocal elasticity theory was utilized to take into account size-dependent effects. Ritz functions was utilized to obtain the frequency equations for simply supported and clamped boundary. To ve...
